Our experience with IM Davidson, Inc. two years ago was not just a sales transaction. Because of Irma's expertise, high quality, unique jewelry design and competitive pricing, we have been more than pleased. We found that doing business with Irma meant no sale was final until we were completely satisfied.

We have since made more purchases and now have a jeweler for life.

We have done great business over the phone with IM Davidson, Inc but it's nice having such a wonderful excuse to visit NYC!

Dear Irma,

Many thanks for this wonderful engagement ring. My fiance was nothing but delighted, the ring exceeded her and my expectations of quality and appearance. I must say it took me a long long time to be able to find a ring that would make me feel really confident and sure my fiance would like it. I did not find it in Spain no matter how expensive it could be. In this case I must say money is not always associated with taste (with reference to most of the designs I could see, and I saw a lot).

Although some may feel this ring is not the classic engagement one, I think it is classic and elegant so I thank you for that.

Best regards

Tomas Echandi

My name is Adriana Fournier, G.G., B.F.A., and it is an honor to recommend Mrs. Irma Davidson whom I have known and worked with for the past seven years. Mrs. Davidson is an extraordinary woman with high ethical and moral standards. She has an invaluable experience in the Sales and Diamond Dealing Business. She excels in these areas with great integrity, loyalty and sincerity.

One of her wonderful attributes is her ability to be a real team player, always empowering me to do my best, and assisting me in any way she can. She has a remarkable ability to communicate her thoughts and ideas logically and clearly.

In closing, doing business with her has been an example of commitment to excellence. The shipments are always sent on time, and the goods are always received as expected to be. She is a perfect combination of a Mother, Friend, and a Professional Diamond and Jewelry Broker which has made her an important asset in my organization.

I am excited about Mrs. Davidson’s opportunity to grow even more, and I am confident that her talents and unmatched skills will help make any organization an immense success.
Very truly yours,

Can a diamond break?

Yes. Tensions resulting from the diamond cutter’s techniques or the diamond’s natural, internal imperfections can make a stone susceptible to cleavage at one or more vulnerable points if it is struck with an adequate amount of force.

Is bigger always better?

No. For example, a near flawless, clear colored diamond that weighs three quarters of a carat can be the same price or more as a noticeably flawed and colored stone that is twice its size.

Does the color of a diamond necessarily affect the price?

Always. Color affects the value of a diamond more than any other grading criterion.

Is every shape worth the same?

No. Round brilliant cut diamonds tend to be the most expensive, all other criteria being equal. But fashion trends and market availability can make certain cuts like pear, princess, heart, emerald or oval more desirable than others for periods of time.

Are the flaws of a set diamond as obvious as those of a loose diamond?

No. The manner in which diamonds are set can hide various types of internal flaws and create the illusion that a stone is more colorful

MORE TO COME....

If you have any questions, please email them to thesavvyoldlady@gmail.com or post them as a comment on this site and The Savvy Jeweler will be happy to answer them for you!

The Savvy Old Lady is very pleased to have Irma Davidson-Gomez, The Savvy Jeweler, as a fabulous addition to her website. Irma has agreed to make all of us savvier when shopping for jewelry whether in the Caribbean, Europe and Asia or at home here in the US. She has also agreed to answer questions you might have regarding the purchase of jewelry. From time to time, The Savvy Jeweler will even show us a special piece of jewelry that she has designed herself.

Both “Crabby” and I have known Irma both professionally and personally for over thirty years and we have the highest regard for her expertise. Irma is a first class “people person” who enjoys her work and dealing with her clients. Her talent and gift for helping others extends beyond her jewelry business to volunteering in Hospice and the American Museum of Natural History. When anyone needs help, Irma, a five foot little dynamo is the first one to step up to the plate and offer a helping hand. Fortunately for us she has offered to keep us informed of all the latest trends in the jewelry world.

Since the Savvy Old Lady has been informed by two, yes I did say two of her children in the past several weeks that there will be two additions to our family in June (OOHRAH!) I have asked Irma if she could design a piece of jewelry for my new grandchildren. I know I am often looking for a special baby gift that can be used and remembered for years to come. Let’s see what Irma can surprise us with.

             INTRODUCING THE SAVVY JEWELER!

As a third generation jeweler, Irma Davidson-Gómez, The New York Hat Lady, learned the business of diamonds early in life. When she and her family relocated to New York City in 1963 from Havana, Cuba they quickly became a fixture on Manhattan’s famous 47th Street diamond exchange, well known among the vendors and traders for their quality work.

In 1975, Irma started her own business, Silver Mine™, in which she primarily sold quality silver and gold jewelry. Within the last twenty years, I.M. Davidson, Inc. (d.b.a. Silver Mine™) has specialized in diamond sales and prides itself on creating custom jewelry that consistently exceeds its customers’ expectations.

Today, Irma is as well known as her parents were before her, for the brilliance with which she conducts her business and the personal nature with which she engages her clientele. The New York Hat Lady continues her education of this constantly evolving industry as a member of: the American Society of Jewelry Historians, Jewelers of America, the New York Mineralogical Club, and the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. She is an alumnus of the Gemological Institute of America, Manhattan Chapter, in which she has served as treasurer and vice president.
